Australia says it will block the domains of sites that host extremist content during terror attacks. The Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, said, “We are doing everything we can to deny terrorists the opportunity to glorify their crimes.” The announcement comes in the wake of New Zealand’s Christchurch massacre at two mosques which was livestreamed over Facebook and saw thousands of copies of the video circulate on social platforms for hours after the attack. The government is building a framework to block domains, and a 24/7 Crisis Communication Centre to monitor online sites for extremist or terrorist content. All of these efforts are a response to the Taskforce to Combat Terrorist and Extreme Violent Material Online, a tech industry group which asked that a clear framework be established. Venture Beat
