Facebook announces takedown of two campaigns it says were linked to Saudi Arabia. Facebook said it removed hundreds of accounts, pages, and groups from two operations linked to “coordinated inauthentic behavior”. The unconnected operations are linked to the Saudi government with the first originating in Saudi Arabia and the other from United Arab Emirates and Egypt. The campaigns created pages that mimicked local news organizations and posted about topics like Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman’s economic and social reform plan and Saudi Arabia’s successes in the war in Yemen. The pages also propagated criticism of Saudi rivals Iran, Qatar, and Turkey. The operations had a following of 1.4 million accounts and 13.7 million accounts respectively. CNBC
