Twitter leads $100 million investment in a leading regional social media platform in India. In another signal of the importance attached to India as a new, growing, and critical market for social media, Twitter announced a major investment in ShareChat. The four-year-old social network serves 60 million users each month in 15 regional languages and does not support English - only about 10% of India’s 1.3 billion people speak English. The primary driver of participation on the platform is user generated content so the latest round of funding will be used to create new content tools and incent content generation with cash. The platform also has sizable user counts in Bangladesh, Nepal, and the Middle East. Tech Crunch
