TikTok parent ByteDance releases its search engine in China

TikTok parent ByteDance releases its search engine in China. Stretching beyond social media and news, ByteDance released its search engine. The move squarely pits the rapidly growing company against China’s search giant, Baidu. The ByteDance search engine, TouTia Search, sits within its news aggregation product, Jinri TouTiao. As we reported last week, while the search engine is presented within the news app it returns results from the news app, TikTok, and from the open web. That said, test searches on sensitive topics in China demonstrated that it returns censored results like other Chinese search engines. CNBC
