New laws could force YouTube and Netflix to make more Australian content

New laws could force YouTube and Netflix to make more Australian content. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’ report essentially asks that the digital video platforms be held to the same standard as other local media outlets. The report includes 25 recommendations and among those are requirements for content that is produced in and features Australian actors, communities, and locations. For now, the report, issued by the country’s treasurer and communications ministers, is only making recommendations. It will be up to the federal government to pursue additional regulations or laws.
