TikTok says it will store user data for India locally

TikTok says it will store user data for India locally. With over 200 million users in India, and a commitment to invest $1 billion in the market over the next three years, TikTok parent ByteDance says it will set up a data center in India. TikTok user data is currently stored in data centers in the US and Singapore. The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been pushing foreign tech companies to store data on Indian users in India, citing a need to protect its citizens and give Indian authorities better access to the information. The US government and several US tech companies including Google and Facebook protested the proposed regulation saying it makes it harder for foreign companies to do business in India. CNN Business
