Because it's Friday: Facebook built a Texas Hold'em bot that can beat five human expert players. The new AI program built in partnership with Carnegie Mellon U., called Pluribus, beat five poker professionals in a six-player Texas Hold’em tournament. After 10,000 hands, the system averaged profits of $1,000 per hour using $1 chips, notably better than the humans at the table. The Facebook AI Research team behind the bot said the specific requirements of dealing with poker’s ‘hidden information’ - opponent’s cards are hidden, players bluff - is a critical characteristic of some broader AI problems the scientists are looking to solve like autonomous driving and negotiating with humans.
