Amazon Alexa is delivering medical advice from the NHS in the UK

Amazon Alexa is delivering medical advice from the NHS in the UK. The UK National Health Service (NHS) is offering health advice (sourced from its own website) to patients via Alexa. When patients ask Alexa simple questions like “Alexa, how do I treat a migraine?” or “Alexa, what are the symptoms of the flu?”, Alexa will give answers vetted by NHS health professionals. The UK’s Department of Health said its goal in working with Amazon and Alexa is to reduce the demand for direct consultation with NHS health professionals and give consumers an alternative, reliable option for medical advice. It says this move will help people with disabilities who may find it difficult to use a mobile phone or computer to access the same information. The Verge
