Wikipedia is turning to AI to help with widespread trolling problem on the site.

In today's edition of <ALL THINGS> Social Media:

Wikipedia uses AI to combat trolling using tools developed to address harassment on social media sites. The Wikimedia Foundation partnered with Jigsaw (tech incubator formerly known as Google Ideas) to use machine learning to automatically flag comments on Wikipedia that might be personal attacks. Wikipedia's content contributors getting personally attacked on the site has become a major problem, causing contributor counts to drop 40% in the last eight years. The machine learning model was trained with 100K toxic comments identified by humans. After the training, the model identified toxic comments as well as three human moderators. The model will be used on Wikipedia to flag toxic comments, with escalation to human moderators where necessary. The code for the open source model and the data are available online. Forbes
